The world could be under pressure, however a sense of hope remains. A novel accolade from the science, music and arts festival Starmus will motivate individuals to take action.

The Starmus Jane Goodall Earth medal will honor in honour of the celebrated British primatologist who passed away recently. It is designed to celebrate individuals and groups that protect life on Earth.

Honoring a Legacy

The first recipients are expected to be announced at the upcoming Starmus event in the Canary Islands, scheduled from 17–22 October the coming year.

Reports indicate that Goodall, who was a Starmus advisory board member, had backed the medal's establishment. “The vision of having this medal, and the festival being tasked to oversee it, is Jane’s,” a statement said. “She said she would like this to happen. And I think due to the very special bond she shared with us.”

“The Starmus Jane Goodall Earth medal will acknowledge ongoing initiatives undertaken to make our world improved for people, animals and the environment and offer support for the continuation such efforts,” said a family member.

Format and Inspiration

One of the founders of the festival stated that the medal – unveiled at a prestigious venue – would probably have multiple categories.

“It’s going to be inspired by the Stephen Hawking award for science communication established exactly 10 years ago,” it was explained. Jane Goodall was an honoree of that very medal.

Expressing concern about the future of the planet, one figure stated, “Honestly, it’s very hard to feel hopeful. Present governance in one major nation represents an assault on knowledge. This situation really cripples collective action.”

“In truth, the situation appears very good which means we need to commence reconsidering, much more seriously about the consequences of our actions. This concern encompasses not only global warming, that’s the entire manner in which we interact with our environment.”

Following an Example

As a result, observers believe it was a good time to emulate her guiding principles. “I think that when we’re awarding this medal, we will be considering this core philosophy that Jane embodied – which made her priority, to change how we regard the other animals around us.”

A major topic today was highlighted of false information. The central topic of the upcoming festival is set as “the pursuit of factual understanding”.

“It has become apparent that truth is becoming a matter of debate when politics are involved. And it’s an alarming trend,” it was said. “Climate research is a science; it is impossible to allow interference from politics in this field.”

Hope and Determination

The goal is that the medal can motivate action. “It’s about motivating others to participate and to care and to work in that direction, really. Whether or not we feel hopeful, we have to focus on working our utmost,” it was added. “Be prepared for setbacks, but you still continue striving towards succeeding.”

A descendant involved in environmental protection expressed optimism that “given direction and when empowered, people are capable of being conscientious guardians of Earth”, citing the initiatives of a foundation that, among its other activities, helps the next generation become engaged with their community, animals, and environment.

“As my late grandmother constantly emphasized, the choices we make each day make a difference and it is up to us the kind of difference we choose to create,” he said. “There is still time and this medal will offer support and raise awareness regarding the positive actions that are being undertaken.”
