Cars in Germany's Town Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement State
Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered many other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; authorities are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Local authorities said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for information.
A senior official said the attack left him speechless and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
